Regarding My Selfhosted Services..
I decided to stop running my Wikiless and LibreMDB frontends for lack of use and poor user experience. Wikipedia isn't a website known for violating its users' privacy in any way that woud warrant using a frontend, and LibreMDB wouldn't load most types of pages, such as for individuals or reviews, making it more of a hindrance to use than a viable way of accessing IMDB information. The same went for Quetre and whatever else I had hosted in the past.
As of today, Reddit implemented a denylist policy that affects my VPS; my RedLib instance can no longer access Reddit to function.
Routing the container through Tor isn't a solution, as many Tor nodes also get blocked by Reddit, and the instance would be unusable thanks to the slow speeds. The only real way to get it running again would be for me to rent another VPS in a different location that isn't blocked by Reddit (yet).
As of now, the only two services that actually work are my PrivateBin and Breezewiki instances. I will most likely keep them running for the time being. If you happened to be someone using any of those services, I'm sorry that they no longer work, and that I am not super motivated to work to keep them running. I could rent multiple servers to host various services the way that some other providers do, moving them to different servers when they inevitably get blocked by the websites they access that grow increasingly hostile towards the entire internet and its own users; but it feels sleazy for me to ask for donations for instances, of whom I'd probably be the only regular user, with the promise of maybe keeping things running in the future.
I still care about these types of services being available for people so that they may browse the internet in a more privacy-respecting way, but this isn't something I can afford to put much money or effort into for the time being. I've considered moving to a cheaper VPS provider anyway, but that doesn't guarantee anything beyond saving me a few dollars a month for hosting my personal website.
Addendum (Oct. 15 2024)
I got a response from 1984 hosting support, and they stated that Reddit is indeed blocking their networks outright and is entirely unresponsive. If you plan on hosting your own instance for RedLib, you will need to choose a different hosting provider to have a better chance of your instance being able to access the Reddit site.
